Back to England

Last weekend the little guy and  I went away, just for a few nights, just the two of us to England. We enjoyed cream tea with dear old friends, sightings of Dartmore's wild ponies slowly grazing in the misty dusk in Devon, picnics in Bath and last but certainly not least a sliver of time in the place I still refer to as 'home', Brighton.

For the most part I was busy catching up with old friends and enjoying the sight of little T getting on so well with his little buddies to take many photos. I only managed a handful. In no way does this do justice to the place or the the friends there (was not so sure you wanted your faces here). Was a very nice trip and yes, I think it reaffirmed my hope to one day return.
Perhaps some of you have had this experience, of feeling settled in a place (may not even be your real country of origin) so much so that it feels very much like home. Finding a home away from home, am still trying to find that here but it takes time I suppose. Perhaps as well meeting my husband and starting a family in Brighton makes it all the more meaningful and familiar,
so many fond memories.

  1. I know what you mean - I think home is also where your friends are and where you have happy memories... in your "new home" everything is new, no old memories, old friends, ...

  3. Dear No,
Exactly, it is still pretty new here am working at building up some good memories and new friendships here but good things take time.

Mlle, They are indeed Brighton photos at the end, couldn't miss a breakfast at Bills! So many cool little shops to be tempted by in the lanes.

  4. You are from a beautiful part of the world! I visited that area years ago, and fell in love with the landscape and people. So nice...

Yep, home... home is everything to me.

    Happy weekend - xo

  5. HI Janis, wish I could say I am from that area but I actually come from the American midwest, Madison, Wisconsin. I moved to Brighton, England in 2001.

  6. But the photos are gorgeous! Very much capture the mood. It has been years and years since I've been to that part of England, and it's nice to revisit through your photos.

  7. Juniper, I have been here in Malta 16 years and you know what, it gets harder each time I go to see my folks and (very old) friends in the UK, and have to return here. I am not sure it does get better with time. It's not that I long for the Uk all the time (grass is always greener, literally) but I just can't quite, in my bones, call Malta 'home'. Must leave one day for some neutral country - not UK, nor Malta - for hubby and me. Really do miss the lush water meadows around Winchester though! I came here at age 30 too!

  11. I think the saying "home is where the heart is", could be quite true. Having lived in four different countries and now considering moving to Malta, where I feel my heart is.

  12. Bonjour, Juniper, from Nice - and an ex-Brighton resident who also loved the place +, of course, Sussex itself (who couldn't, eh ;-)?). Thank you for the delightful reminder.
