"Hanghidlek"
which means let me tell you something. in Maltese.....
this is a VERY common phrase here, when you hear this word you may want to find a chair or bench to sit on, because it could be awhile. Not that I am complaining, storytellers like these are a dying breed. For more cornerviews go to Spaindaily.

I love this post! so local and real. thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I have seen your blog, and I like it. It really has a Maltese look to it.
ReplyDeleteI'll be there are some fascinating stories! It is a dying art, sadly.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great shot! Is it someone you know?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great word. You summed up its meaning so well and I can really imagine the kind of conversations that follow Lovely.
ReplyDeleteOh I used to love listening to my granddad's counts of his time serving the british merchant navy. Old people have so much to offer.
ReplyDeleteHa ha thank you, not sure what that means but yes I suppose living in Malta has rubbed off on me and the blog.
ReplyDeleteLucia, no it is not someone I know. There are many such faces of character on the island, if only I was comfortable taking some of the old men along our ally, forever sitting on their stoops watching the world go by, and commenting to each other. Many have a real soft spot for little D. and break into toothless smiles at her approach.
ReplyDelete;-)))) I can imagine that can take some... hours?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your so kind words at my place.
see your around!
take care xxx
I love it. I want to hear some of the stories you have been told!
ReplyDeleteYes, I have met those elders and they are so interesting. I love to listen to the old stories. You are lucky to be part of that old world...
ReplyDeleteAlso - looks like an interesting language too :^)
Visiting your Blog just by accident ... it certainly has a Maltese feel to it.
ReplyDeleteI hope to visit again.
God bless.
P.S. It's still cold here in the UK.
cool pic, Jupe. Love it!
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for dropping by. You blog is full of interesting things and beautiful pics. I too am a radio and books lover, and yes, storytellers are a dying breed, unfortunnately. I have a holiday house at a small village, two hours from Rome, and during the Summer I love to sit at the stoops and hear them to talk about the "old days gone".
ReplyDeleteThanks for share!
Ciao
