  1. These are almond blossoms? How very different from the variety we have here :-)

  2. Yes they really are, they are just starting. If I am able to hop the stone wall near our house I can get a few more close up shots soon. It seems so odd to me that the flowers come before the leaves.

  3. That's the same with cherries, the blossoms come before the leaves as well.

How nice to have almond trees in the garden which blossom and maybe have some almonds growing in them - wishing you busy bees...

  5. oh my! do the blossoms smell like almonds too? i'm curious - do the almonds grow underground like peanuts, or do they grow from the plant?

  6. TO be honest I took teh photo over a wall so I didn't get close enough to smell, will let you know though. here are two kinds of almonds here, one is 'sweet' and the other 'bitter', both are eaten and found in many of the traditional sweets. I was told today that the almonds are not ready (from the tree not under the ground ) till September!

  7. A similar scene here, too. Can't wait until they are in full bloom. It reminds me of living in Japan when the cherry blossoms started blooming....sudden bursts of color brightening up the winter grey. I love almonds so I have been waiting to see what the flowers would look like. I didn't realize there were bitter and sweet trees...do they have different blooms? Do you have to sample the nuts to tell?
