Books and such

Once again I am inspired to share, sorry to those who do not like to read or who have had enough of radio.
This was such a good talk.. as regards books, the written page, Islam, and much more (click here for the  audio).  Really a captivating speaker with something to say.
Azar Nafisi is also the author of Reading Lolita in Tehran.

  1. Very interesting. This reminds me of two books I've enjoyed of Khaled Houseini 'The Kite Runner'and 'A thousand splendid suns'

  6. She is amazing. I was lucky enough to hear her lecture during the time she was writing this book. She spoke a bit about her mother and this second book, but the focus was really on imagination and freedom. She was fabulous. I will have to check out the link you posted. My fascination with Iran started with "Reading Lolia in Tehran" and has grown from there...we are currently and impatiently waiting for the Little Travelers DVD about their family travels in Iran. If you want some additional reads about Iran, I recommend "The Saffron Kitchen" and "Funny in Farsi". I just picked up "Pomegranate Soup" from the library and can't wait to start that.

Wish you lived here so we could swap books and meet for tea!
